IEEE World Haptics 2017

Student Volunteers

World Haptics 2017 in F├╝rstenfeldbruck (Munich), June 6-9, is offering a volunteer program to provide full-time university students (see below) with an opportunity to participate in one of the most prestigious international conferences in haptics and to network with academics, professionals and other students in the field.

General Information

Student Volunteers contribute to the smooth running and thus the success of our conference. We are looking for applicants who have demonstrated reliability, passion for haptics, as well as leadership and service. Currently five openings are available. The likely tasks will be:

  • General support of the organizing committee (3 openings)
  • Content creation for social media presence (2 openings)

The general support task will be focused on a specific conference day (entailing for instance support in the sessions), while the social media work will occur during the whole meeting.

Volunteers will receive a free full student registration for the conference. This includes access to the complete program, such as the technical sessions, demo, WIP, SIC and poster sessions, as well as reception and conference dinner. Note that student volunteers will still be responsible for their own travel and accommodation expenses.

Applicants must be enrolled full-time as Bachelor, Master or PhD student for at least one semester during the academic year 2016-2017. Individuals must have strong interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, experience in haptics, and, depending on the task, a matching command of English.

Volunteers will work for up to 12 hours at the conference. They are expected to participate in an orientation session and will have to show up 10 minutes before their allotted service times. In addition, volunteers should be flexible and available to help out for unforeseen events, which are difficult to predict.

Application Process

Candidates should send a short CV (maximum two pages), a motivation letter, a scan of their student ID card, and a support letter from their PhD advisor or a related academic, in one PDF file via email to the following address: Total file size should not exceed 8 MB.

Please mention in the supporting material your language skills (level of English, German; other languages) as well as existing experiences as student volunteer or from other conference participation. Further please let us know in case you already have registered. Finally, you are welcome to indicate a preference for a volunteer task.

Application deadline is the 12th of May 2017. Notification will be done on 15th of May 2017.
We are looking forward to your application.
